Yellowstone Trip 2009

It was coming up to our 1 year wedding anniversary and we thought we might as well go to Yellowstone, plus my dad is working over there, so it was a perfect chance to see him as well.
We left Thursday morning around 5:30 am, Boy was it early!
After arriving in Idaho, on the snake river we pulled over to have a lunch, out of our cooler. Then we decided to hit the Idaho Zoo, in Boise. I will post a couple of the pictures of the zoo animals, but you can find the whole albums on http://www.myspace.com/rachealracheal.
Then we where on the road again, another 500+ miles to get to our distanation. There was a really cool canyon that we stopped at some miles North West of Twin Falls Idaho, so we had to take a break from driving to check it out. We drove across Idaho on the Interstate with 75 mph speed limits, which allowed us to cover some ground in good time, arriving in Idaho Falls around 7:30 pm, we decided to get a room that first night, we walked the river trails, took a swim in the pool and rested in the hot tub, before we hit the beds to sleep. Awaking the next moring it was time to finish our trip and get to Yellowstone, we left around 9:00 am that morning. We entered Yellowstone in the West entrance at West Yellowstone, Montana. The traffic getting into the park was crazy, 3 lanes where opened for traffic to pay to get in.
Here is the Park ranger as we paid for admission, got our map and entered the park. She was very nice and all smiles, probably not use to people asking for her picture!
After a few miles in Montana it turns into Wyoming, but the country was so beautiful. Some of the terain was like Deschutes or Harney county, but much greener, it was beautiful, thats about as well as I can do to describe it, LOL.

The first animals we saw in the wild where, Elk, Bald Eagle and lots of Buffalo. What is really crazy is that people just jump out of their cars in the middle of the roads to check out the animals, which cause big traffic jams. Although, there are signs everywhere that tell us to not approach the wild animals, because of accidents that happen all the time, people ignore the signs and get as close as they can. A smaller group of people looking at Buffalo.
We saw a bunch of other geysers and country side, also more elk and buffalo before we got to Old Faithful and before hitting dad's camp. Dad is camped out in South Yellowstone, down at Grants Village on the Yellowstone Lake.

Arriving at dad's we rested for a few mintues then we drove out to his work site to check it out, which was driving to south Yellowstone entrance, and then we decided to drive up to Canyon Village which is about 50 miles North for dinner. We saw lot more Geysers, The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, lots more buffalo, Elk, Pelican, birds, and lots and lots of people. It took us about 3 hours to reach Canyon Village. After dinner it was late and we headed back to camp for the night, arriving there and to bed around 11:00 pm. We woke on Saturday the 4th of July and decided instead of driving to Cody Wyomming we would go to Granite Montana to do some laundry, grocery shopping and more site seeing. Dad lives in his 5th wheel trailer about 9 months out of the year so he was in much need of laundry service and food. Montana was about 50+ miles away again in Northern Yellowstone, but more north and west then Canyon Village. We saw a huge Bull Elk that was a 6 pointer, this is where we where asked from people if it was a Elk or a Moose and they wanted to know why it had horns?? LOL we almost died of laughter while we explained that Elk loose their horns in the fall and they grow back in April, the Elk was still in velvet but it was huge!!! We went to Mammoth Hot Springs, then arrived in Granite Montana and hung out there for about 5 hrs had lunch visited the shops, did the laundry and food buying and explored the little town, there where no community fireworks, but people where lighting them off everywhere in the streets, and they have much bigger legal fireworks then Oregon is allowed!!! We left Granite and drove East at the top of Yellowstone on our way back. We saw a Black Bear, a Grizzly Bear, the Petrified Tree, Coyotes, Mountain Sheep and a fox. Not to mention more Buffalo and Elk. We arrived back at camp that night again around 11:00 pm. We left Sunday around 9:00 am and didn't get home till about 1:00 am Monday morning. We had a very fun time and would do it again in a heartbeat.. I didnt load all the pictures here, since I had over 300, but I will be uploading them to http://www.myspace.com/rachealracheal.
Hope you all enjoyed my blog!!!!
